This Mandan School Just Picked Up A Very Prestigious Award

I was just talking with one of my Mandan friends recently, about how much the city of Mandan has going for it these days.

They have a brand new middle school and high school, the Starion complex is one of the finest in youth sports in the state, and now another one of their schools just picked up a very prestigious award.

How prestigious? This award is known as the "Blue Ribbon' Honors".

Only 356 schools are recognized nationally with over 98,000 K-12 schools alone in the United States.

According to a press release from the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction, three schools were chosen in North Dakota because of their exemplary academic performance.

The three schools chosen in North Dakota as "Blue Ribbon' Honors" include Lincoln Elementary in Beach, the Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood K-12 public school in Mohall, and Red Trail Elementary, in Mandan.

Dave Steckler, principal of Red Trail Elementary, said the Blue Ribbon designation highlighted the work of “our school community, which consists of students, staff, and parents. All of us working together promotes a model of doing what is best for each child, and when that occurs, accomplishments happen.”

The principal said the school planned a celebration with a student assembly on Monday, the recognition will continue with students and their families over the course of the year.

Red Trail Elementary School opened in 2014. It now has 442 students in grades prekindergarten through five.

We got to know this school last March when our DJs read to the students during National Reading Month.
