The Salary You Need In North Dakota To Be Upper-Middle-Class
The salary you need in North Dakota to be considered "upper middle class".
Money, wouldn't it be nice if it grew on trees? People say money doesn't buy happiness but without it sure can be miserable. Lack of cash can be some of the most stressful times you can go through.
The funny thing is, no matter how much money you have, you always seem to need more. Why is that? The number one reason in my humble opinion is that most people live ABOVE their means and not below it like it's recommended.
They live in too expensive of a home for their income. They purchase too expensive of a car. And, don't get me going on credit cards. The old saying, "if you can pay cash for it, you shouldn't probably buy it".
So many people are struggling these days just to make ends meet. Even being "middle class" seems like the poor house. Just take a trip to the grocery store and you know exactly what I mean.
Maybe what we all need to be better off is "upper middle class" in North Dakota, but what exactly is that?
I ran across an article from Go Banking Rates, where they analyzed what each household in each state needs to make to be considered "upper middle class".
Their data was based on each state's median household income from the 2023 American Community Survey. Each state's upper-middle-class income was found after the total middle-class income range was determined in each state.
Here's what they determined for upper-middle-class for North Dakota.
The minimum you need to make in your household is $118,349 to be considered upper-middle-class. The maximum is $151,898. Overall North Dakota ranks #28 in the country when it comes to the upper-middle-class category.
In Mississippi, you will need the least amount of money to be considered upper-middle-class at $85,424 per household. In D.C. and Maryland, you will need most at $212,574 and $203,304 respectively.
How about our neighboring states?
Surprisingly, Montana is the cheapest at #14, followed by South Dakota at #19, and Minnesota is the most expensive coming in at #38.
