The 6 Newest Towns Established In North Dakota

As we learned yesterday if you read my stories, most of the towns created in North Dakota were established in the late 1800s' when the railroads started working their way west.

The oldest established city in North Dakota is Pembina.

The towns along the Red River however like Fargo, Grand Forks, Wahpeton, and Pembina were established by fur traders who used the water for their business.

That got me thinking about the polar opposite.  How about the newest cities established in North Dakota?  As it turns out, you might even be living in one of them while you are reading this article.

There are only a handful of new cities or towns that have been established recently in North Dakota.  All of them are suburbs of the Fargo area except one.  More on that in just a minute.

So, without further ado, here are the 6 NEWEST towns in North Dakota.

#6 Briarwood, North Dakota.  Established in 1973.  The population: 57 people.  Briarwood is a suburb of Fargo.

#6 (tie) North River, North Dakota.  Established in 1973.  The population: 55 people.  North River is a suburb of Fargo.

#4 Prairie Rose, North Dakota.  Established in 1975.  The population:56 people.

#2 Reile's Acres, North Dakota.  Established in 1977.  The population: 703 people. Reile's Acres is a suburb of Fargo.

#2 (tie) Lincoln, North Dakota.  Established in 1977.  The population: 4,257 people. Lincoln is a suburb southeast of Bismarck.

#1  Oxbow, North Dakota.  Established in 1988.  The population: 381 people.  Oxbow is a suburb of Fargo and is the newest town created in North Dakota.
