BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Gov. Doug Burgum has asked for a presidential disaster declaration because of severe drought conditions across much of North Dakota.

In the wake of torrential downpours earlier this summer, President Obama has approved a disaster declaration that will appropriate federal funds to affected areas of North Dakota.

While there have been incidents with sinkholes swallowing a car or even a house, the unfortunate town of Bayou Corne in Louisiana is vanishing.
