I have to admit, in my younger days, I was guilty of this crime and I'm not proud of it because now I know that it can be very dangerous. In the past few months, City of Bismarck officials report that there has been a rash of people stealing highway signs with the majority of them being street signs. It's one of those crimes that you may not notice while driving around unless you're looking for a street and you notice a naked street pole with nothing on it.

Plus, it's dangerous especially if you nab a stop sign, yield sign or even a "dip" sign which alert drivers of a dip in the road ahead. This has a huge impact on drivers not familiar with the area or a new residence and even impact the response time of emergency personnel such as ambulance or the fire department.

In recent months, the city of Bismarck has had close to 30 signs stolen at a cost to the tax payers of close to $1200.00

By the way you can be charge with theft and or possession of stolen property if caught (you know you have one hanging in the garage, pool room or your man cave).

YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!

For what it's worth, I did not steal a sign, instead, a close friend grabbed a "Tiger Lane" sign for my birthday, back in the day. I always said how much I would love that sign, and being a huge LSU Tiger fan, he thought it would make a great birthday gift. I think the statute of limitations has passed since this was way, way long ago in another life time! Dang it, I wish I knew what happen to that sign!
