Police Departments Warning Parents

Police departments across the state are warning parents about a social media prank called the "Kick the Door Challenge." Kids are running up to the front doors of homes, kicking them while filming, then posting the video to social media.

An Incident in Grand Forks

The Grand Forks Police Department is warning parents about this potentially dangerous prank after a recent incident. According to Valley News Live, a homeowner reported that a juvenile ran up to their house, tried the door handle, and then proceeded to pound on the door before running away. The same homeowner had a similar incident previously, where a group of teens kicked at the door aggressively before running away.

Police are convinced this behavior is tied to the social media trend known as "Kick the Door Challenge".

The Dangerous Consequenses

Police Departments around North Dakota say this juvenile prank could lead to serious consequences. The Kick the Door challenge promotes property damage; it could lead to criminal charges such as criminal mischief, and it poses a risk to both homeowners and the teens conducting the prank, as they could be mistaken for an intruder.

We had a version of this back in my day called "Ding, Dong, Ditch", but in this day and age you just can't do a prank like that. You won't have to search online very long if you want to research incidents of homeowners shooting people outside their door they believe pose a threat.

Nope, it's not worth it. Parents, talk to your kids to deter this social media prank before something unthinkable happens.
