Just in time for the long Memorial Day weekend, there will be a sobriety check point(s) somewhere in Burleigh County this Friday.  This is according to a press-release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The checkpoint(s) will be held between 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm.  After the conclusion of the checkpoint, Troopers will focus enforcement patrols to remove impaired motorists from the roadway.  The Memorial Day weekend is one of the busiest driving weekends of the year in North Dakota.  According to an article on USA Today, more than 37 million Americans are expected to travel over the 5 day holiday period.  In fact, the number of Americans expected to travel 50 miles or more from home this Memorial Day weekend is a 60% increase from last year when only 23 million hit the highways.  Virtually, nobody traveled last holiday, as the country was busy quarantining due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Thankfully, it appears those days are behind us.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol wants you to know that alcohol and drug-related crashes are preventable; every driver needs to consistently make the choice to always drive sober or to designate a sober driver.

I will be busy traveling back and forth from Dickinson, North Dakota this weekend.  No lake time, but I'll be watching my son and his Bismarck Demons baseball team in the WDA tournament.

Whatever you got going on for the long Memoria Day weekend, make sure you buckle up and have a designated driver.  Law Enforcement will be out in full force.  Do your part to help save lives and be responsible by not drinking and driving.
