Snowfall Record Bismarck, North Dakota Could Fall This Week

The all-time snowfall record in Bismarck, North Dakota could fall this week.

I know what you're saying, "Enough already".  We are currently sitting at 99.8 inches of snow in the Capitol City.  The all-time record is 101.6 inches of snow going back to the historic winter of 96-97.

I just got off the phone with my friends at the National Weather Service in Bismarck concerning a system that will impact the region Thursday and Friday.  We do have snow in the forecast.  I asked if we had the potential to break the all-time record with this upcoming system.  "It's not out of the realm of possibility" is what I was told.

So, you're telling me there's a chance.  I myself, and I think there are some people who share my thinking.  We're this close to history, we might as well break it.

How much snow are we talking and what are the potential impacts?

Looks like an inch or two.  It's also going to be very windy on Thursday and Friday and we could see some blowing snow that could impact your commute on Friday morning.  I know that seems crazy this late into April but if you remember, last year we saw some pretty significant winter weather late in April.

We only need less than two inches to break the all-time record.

It's far from a sure thing, but we'll be in the ballpark anyway, and rest assured, any snow we do receive will melt in short order.  So, again, let's break this all-time sucker.  Who's with me?  Let's make history and like always, never turn down precipitation in this neck of the woods.  You never know when drought will pop up again.
