The National Weather Service has put the Bismarck Mandan area in a slight risk scenario for severe thunderstorms late this afternoon and evening.  Numerous severe storms will be possible mainly around interstate 94 and south and west of the interstate.  The strongest storms as you can see by the map below are expected to be southwest of Bismarck Mandan.

However, a lot of uncertainty remains regarding how far north and east the threat will develop.  As far as hazards, you can expect damaging winds up to 70 mph with some of these storms.  Very large hail up to 2 inches.  Torrential rainfall is possible with these storms as well.  An isolated tornado can't be ruled out with some of these storms.  However, storms with tornado's are more likely southwest of Bismarck Mandan.

As far as timing, you can expect these storms to develop after 3 pm and linger until 12 pm.  So keep your eyes on the sky and please check back here or listen to US 103-3, as we will continue to keep you up to date on these storms and if any warnings or watches are issued.  Please be weather aware this afternoon.

Bismarck Mandan has received some timely rains over the last couple of weeks, however we are still abnormally dry according to the National Weather Service.  We do have a couple more chance of rain for rain over the next week.  After tonight's rain event, we could see more thunderstorms Sunday afternoon and evening and chances next week as well.
