Severe Weather Expected For North Dakota This Weekend
According to the Storm Prediction Center from the National Weather Service, parts of the state of North Dakota could be in for some volatile weather this weekend. The timing is expected to be Sunday afternoon through Monday morning. Scattered strong to severe weather is expected. Here's a map from the Storm Prediction Center.
An upper trough will advance eastward across the state of North Dakota on Sunday setting us up for some fireworks in the sky. Scattered to isolated severe weather is expected for a broad portion of the area. The main threat will damaging hail, strong winds, and heavy rain.
I myself love a good thunderstorm and it seems like we haven't had many of them since the summer of 2019. The drought pretty much-made thunderstorms the last couple of summers a rare occurrence. That could all be changing this weekend in Bismarck Mandan and the rest of North Dakota.
Ahead of these storms temperatures are expected to warm into the mid-80s over the Bismarck Mandan area for the weekend adding to the instability in the atmosphere that will lead to severe weather. Cooler weather in the 70s will greet us for the early part of next week before warm weather moves in again for next weekend.
This could be the first widespread severe weather outbreak of the spring/summer for the state of North Dakota. With this expected to be a big travel weekend for summer travelers, The National Weather Service advises people to be aware of rapidly changing weather conditions on Sunday afternoon.
