Retracted Rolling Stone Story is Rare Demerit for Writer
The retracted Rolling Stone article about an apparently fictional gang rape at the University of Virginia is a blemish on the otherwise illustrious career of freelance writer Sabrina Rubin Erdely.
She's made a living out of provocative articles. But none has been as contentious as a November piece that turned a national conversation about campus sexual assault into a much louder debate.
Other journalists quickly found inconsistencies her story, "A Rape on Campus." On Sunday, Rolling Stone published a review it asked the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism to undertake.
The report was scathing. It came after a finding last month by Charlottesville, Virginia, police that there wasn't evidence to support the claims of a woman in the story that she'd been raped by seven men at a fraternity house.
