Independence Day is going to look a little different this year. No, not because we're finally out of the drought (but yes, that's awesome), but instead, because protesters will be gathering at our state's Capitol.

Roe v Wade

Roe v Wade has been overturned, and some people are speaking out against the decision. I stumbled across a Facebook event page for a protest to be held on the day of our nation's independence. On July 4th (2022) protesters will stand at the North Dakota State Capitol with signs and words for our state and national legislators.

This is set to take place at 8:30 pm, right before the Capitol Grounds fireworks show.

The Message Of The Protest

According to the Facebook event page, attendees "Will not stand idle by while they celebrate their freedom, when they stole the freedom of every human with a uterus in this country."

The event page is called "Roe V Wade Overturnment Protest." As of right now, 220 people indicated that they are interested and 74 have RSVP'd, and say they are going to attend.

According to the page, signs are being made, and a party for participating protesters will be held after the event, at one of the organizers homes.

I've reached out to the organizers for comment, and have yet to hear back.

Across The Country

News of Roe V Wade being overturned swept across the nation on Friday, June 24h. Since the supreme Court decision, protests have been held in every state, including North Dakota.

Not familiar with the specifics of Roe V Wade? According to Britannica, it was ruled in 1973 that criminalizing abortion invaded a woman's right to privacy. A Texas case cited the 14th Amendment. The Supreme Court set statutes, placing a point at which abortions would be legally allowed.
