My Mountain Lion Scare

This could happen anywhere, including right here in North Dakota. Have you ever had an encounter with a Mountain Lion before? I know I have, in fact, we even had a Mountain Lion wandering through our development before, south of Lincoln.

My cougar experience. I live fairly close to the river, and I was walking for some pheasants south of the University of Mary. My dog and I were in some pretty deep cattails when all of a sudden my yellow lab just stopped. The fur on her back stood up, and we heard a growl that I will never forget. My lab jumped back, and I grabbed her collar. I never saw the cat, but it was obvious the lion was close by.

When I got back up to my truck and I asked the landowner if he had ever seen any Mountain Lions on his land, his answer surprised me a bit. He went on to tell me he had shot several over the years.

Black Hills Mountain Lion Scare

According to a report from KOTA-TV in Rapid City, the Fall River Sheriff's office received a call this past Tuesday night that a Mountain Lion entered a home in the Cottonwood Springs Damn, area, near Hot Springs, South Dakota, in the Southern Black Hills. No word on what happened to the Mountain Lion or if it is still nearby.
