Pier 1 Imports Comes Tumbling Down In Bismarck, North Dakota
Just after a day that the Bismarck Fire Department was practicing on the building, the former Pier 1 Imports building has been demolished.
It happened on Tuesday, March 11 in Bismarck to make way for a new building that will be built in its place.
There's been a lot of speculation about what might be going into this spot for many years.
Unfortunately, many brick-and-mortar stores are going the way of Blockbuster Video stores, pagers, and answering machines.
We're living in a world of online shopping these days, and Pier 1 Imports in Bismarck met its fate sometime in January 2020, when it closed its doors for good. In fact, Pier 1 ended up closing about half of all of its 900-plus stores nationwide during this time, and unfortunately, ours in Bismarck was one of them.
Since then, the building has sat empty with a "for sale" sign on the front of the building. The COVID-19 pandemic also surely didn't help the situation for this store in Bismarck.
We now know that another Starbucks will go into this space.
The old building was obviously a little too big for Starbucks, so it makes sense it would be a complete teardown. I guess there's always going to be a market for coffee stores as we need our caffeine in America and we don't like to wait for it.
As they were tearing down Pier 1 Imports, one of our listeners managed to get a few shots of the demolition for you to reminisce.
