The University of North Dakota men's hockey team is looking for a new head coach.

My Instagram and Facebook feeds were flooded yesterday with news that Brad Berry is out as head coach for the Fighting Hawks hockey team. This comes after their 4-2 loss to Western Michigan this past Friday night at the NCHC Frozen Faceoff tournament in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Because of the loss, North Dakota missed the NCAA Tournament for the second time in the last three years. Something the Fighting Hawks hockey program is not used to doing.

This obviously didn't sit well with the North Dakota fanbase, who were pretty vocal this past season on social media forums concerning Berry.

The players of North Dakota were notified late yesterday afternoon in a team meeting.

According to the Grand Forks Herald, Brad Berry just completed his 10th season behind the bench at North Dakota.

The University of North Dakota will still owe Brad Berry $493,500 dollars, as he still has one year left on his contract.

That salary made Brad Berry one of the highest-paid state employees in North Dakota.

Brad Berry made history when he became the first rookie head coach to win an NCAA men's hockey championship in his first season in 2016. Berry also notched 5 Penrose Cups during his time with UND.

Berry's all-time record is an impressive 227-119-35, which is a .642 winning percentage.

Brad Berry also played for the University of North Dakota as a defenseman back in 1983 through 1986 before he went on to a pro hockey career.

UND Assistant hockey coach Dane Jackson will serve as the team's interim head coach as the University is looking for Berry's replacement.
