Old Dominion Look on the Bright Side in Brand-New Song ‘Make It Sweet’ [LISTEN]
Old Dominion are looking on the bright side of life in their brand-new single "Make It Sweet." Readers can press play above to hear the peppy, positive new tune.
"Make It Sweet" makes the point that, no matter what life throws at you, it'll be fine with the right person by your side. The lyrics are written from the point of view of someone talking to a significant other: "I know it's a drag / I know it's a grind," Old Dominion's lead singer, Matthew Ramsey, sings to open the song. "But let's make a little lemonade if lemons is all we got."
"'Cause I'm stuck on you, you're stuck on me / I never gotta wonder where my honey be / I ain't savin' all my sugar for a Saturday night / Seven days a week, I got an appetite," goes the chorus of "Make It Sweet." "Sunset's like a tangerine / Let's find a road we've never seen / Don't waste another mile or a minute not kissin' me / Life is short, make it sweet."
In an Instagram post, Old Dominion explain that, when they wrote and recorded "Make It Sweet," they'd planned to write and record a song in one day, but hadn't discussed with each other "what we wanted the next step for our band to be."
"What happened was something we could never have planned. The words fell out, and the next thing we knew, we had recorded “Make It Sweet,"" the post explains. "It’s raw and natural and 100 percent us. We are so proud and grateful to have the opportunity to share such a meaningful moment with the world."
"Make It Sweet" comes from Old Dominion's forthcoming third studio album. To The Boot, Ramsey notes, "We all feel confident in what we're doing, the songs and the parts that we're playing, so I think that's really gonna come across and make these songs shine, because, I think, for the first time, we all feel pretty much at home in what we're doing."
Old Dominion last released new music in 2017, their sophomore album Happy Endings. They'll conclude their Happy Endings 2018 World Tour in December, but have more tour dates on the calendar for 2019.
