North Dakota Snowfall Totals: Nearly A Foot Of Snow Fell
Winter Storm Warnings were issued over much of our listening area late Friday afternoon, January 7th, 2025.
A narrow band of snowfall fell across southern North Dakota that dropped nearly a foot of snow. The snowstorm really amped up over much of the area, including the Capital Region as most weather models had predicted less snow in the Bismarck area.
The National Weather Service in Bismarck originally issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of our listening area, with a Winter Storm Warning for the counties along the South Dakota border.
However, the heavier snow expanded a little further north, with snowfall rates dropping at 1 to 2 inches per hour, which caused the National Weather Service to include Morton, Burleigh, and Kidder counties to be included in the Winter Storm Warning.
It was a fast-moving snowstorm that dropped a lot of light fluffy snow. I know I shoveled my driveway three times Friday evening with little difficulty.
The system had exited south-central North Dakota by late Friday evening and worked its way out of North Dakota and into Minnesota by early Saturday morning.
Here are your snowfall totals from the National Weather Service from Friday's storm.
Bismarck received 4.2 inches of snow.
Lincoln received 5.5 inches of snow.
Fargo received 2.0 inches of snow.
Hazelton received 8.0 inches of snow.
Selfridge & Strasburg received 10.0 inches of snow (The highest totals in the state).
LaMoure received 6 inches of snow.
Wahpeton received 7.5 inches of snow.
Saint Gertrude received 8.5 inches of snow.
Abercrombie received 6.5 inches of snow.
Grand Forks received a trace of snow.
Looks like we will be snow-free for most of the week with very frigid temperatures. The next chance for snow will come next weekend and temperatures will moderate just a bit.
