North Dakota Has Dropped To #5 Nuclear Power In The World!

When I was younger, North Dakota was the #3 nuclear power in the world! Only falling behind the USSR and the rest of the combined United States. Now we're losing out to Washington state. What?!

North Dakota's prairies are dotted with missile silos poised to launch nuclear death upon an unsuspecting South Dakota.

Not that kind of SILO!   That's just silly...

Nope, they are these kinda silos.

Don't worry South Dakota I was just kidding...

If you see a building in the middle of a farm field with a basketball hoop and a perimeter fence, odds are it's storing a missile like that.  When I was growing up, old folks always talked about how if North Dakota seceded from the U.S.of A., we would be the third largest nuclear nation in the world!  Now I'm one of those crazy old folks.

National emergency alert test planned for next month.

It freaked out a lot of people living in the state. Of course, these were times of the Cold War calamity and people were rightfully concerned about hotheads blowing people up.  But wouldn't you want to blow up New York first?

So about 250 Minuteman III missiles were packed with up to three warheads each in sites across North Dakota. It was the largest missile arsenal of any state at the time, leading to North Dakota getting the moniker “world’s third-largest nuclear power.“

Well since that time the states of Washington Georgia, and New Mexico, have all surpassed the Peace Garden State on the list of nuclear arsenals. Oh well.

Why am I writing about this?

This all came to mind today as I was reading an article of an upcoming planned FEMA nationwide emergency alert test planned for August 11th.

FEMA, in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission, will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) this summer.

The national test will consist of two portions, testing WEA and EAS capabilities. Both tests will begin at 2:20 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Aug. 11.

Now that North Dakota has dropped down the list of Russian target states, I'm feeling a lot better about our odds of surviving a nuclear winter.  Seriously, what do Georgia and New Mexico know about winter anyway?
