New Map Shows How America is Shifting – Breaks Down into Demographic Shift

America, the population is always moving, changing and shifting to different areas of the country. A new interactive map by the American Committee Project demonstrates  how each county in the country has changed or what each area of the country is broken down into different categories such as farming, military, greying, working class, college hubs and evangelical hubs as this group has 15 categories to identify each county or region.

For example, Burliegh Country is considered a college hub and Morton Country is considered rural middle America. There are several interactive maps that also predict where each area will shift within the next 10 year.

This group have 15 county types in the American Communities Project and they were using a standard clustering method of analysis, conducted by political scientist Iris Hui, PhD, where 36 different indicators – everything from population density to military service members to college students and universities to farm land – were sorted using an algorithm that identified like places. The findings are interesting as they took several items into consideration including some current industries effecting an area's economy such as the controversial practice used in the oil industry known as fracking.

It's interesting to see where a county is now in comparison to where it could be in the future.
