One Nation, Under God, Very Divisible...

January 20th, on his first day at work, President-Elect Joe Biden started the day with a gathering of 25,000 of his closest National Guard friends and Garth Brooks. That evening, the now President hung out with his First Lady for a night of Springsteen, Foo Fighters and FIREWORKS!.

In between it all...Joe knocked out 17 Executive Orders including one that shut down the Keystone XL pipeline project.  Pretty busy day. But it's really not as hard as it seems.  For Executive Orders, you just need to have your staff type it up and you sign it.  No messing with Congress or the Supreme Court, you're the Executive Branch and you get to sit at the big table too!

Well, North Dakota lawmakers want a seat at the big table too! To get there, senators and representatives have worked together to introduce House Bill 1164.  This would give North Dakota a crack at shooting down random executive orders we don't care for...there's not much more to it than that-

Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the state, a political subdivision, or any other publicly funded organization may not implement an executive order that restricts a person's rights or that the attorney general determines to be unconstitutional under subsection 1 and which relates to:

a. Pandemics or other health emergencies;

b. The regulation of natural resources, including coal and oil;

c. The regulation of the agriculture industry;

d. The use of land;

e. The regulation of the financial sector as it relates to environmental, social, or governance standards; or

f. The regulation of the constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

"An executive order that restricts a persons rights"...how vague can ya get?

"the attorney general determines to be unconstitutional"...that's the ND attorney general I presume.  It's a federal thing, take it to the Supreme Court.

This measure seems to say won't accept any of their rules on Oil, Ag, Acres, Guns, or Regulation...or a worldwide Pandemic.

ESPECIALLY if we didn't ask for any advice...don't be restricting a person's rights to not want your opinion.

KXNET talked with this guy...

Minot Republican Representative Matthew Ruby is one of the bill’s co-sponsors. He says it’s not directed toward the new administration but rather, an expansion of executive powers in general.

“I would’ve supported it whether it was Trump or Bush or Obama — any of them. I really think there’s a huge difference between going through Congress and getting something passed compared to, you didn’t get your way so you’re putting it in as an executive order,”

Pardon me on being skeptical with the timing of this bill's introduction, But Representative Ruby has a point that one pissed off politician shouldn't possess that scope of power.  So who's been dropping the most executive orders?

Biden          17

Trump         220

Obama       276 (2 terms)

Bush           291 (2 terms)

Clinton        364 (2 terms)

Here is the title holder!

FDR           3,721 (3 full terms)

Honorable mention- Woodrow Wilson 1,803

So before we try swiping our star off the American Flag, let's try to figure out how to figure it out...together! (awww)

Big hug y'all!
