Midland Say Past Year’s Success Has Been ‘a Big Adjustment’
Plenty has changed for Midland in the last year, since the release of their debut single, "Drinkin' Problem." The No. 1 song, from their freshman album, On the Rocks, catapulted the trio -- Mark Wystrach, Cameron Duddy and Jess Carson -- into the country music spotlight ... and after years spent trying to get their music heard, the guys admit it's a lot to take in.
"It’s been the craziest year, and it’s been a big adjustment, to be honest with you," Wystrach recently shared with The Boot. "The thing that has been the most special for us, though, is, the shows are all selling out. Now, instead of playing for 10, 20 people, we’re playing in front of thousands of people. That really puts fuel in the tank and makes it much easier to get up and do it every night, because it’s kind of what you live for. It’s pretty cool."
In addition to headlining several of their own shows, Midland are currently opening for Little Big Town on their Breakers Tour. The trio will then hit the road with Thomas Rhett, on his 2018 Life Changes Tour.
"We have a bunch of headliners and one-offs, fairs, festivals," Wystrach reveals. "It’s going to be a crazy year."
While Midland are grateful for their success, they admit they aren't sure why this time, everything clicked.
"Life has been a wonderful mystery," says Duddy. "Every single day is completely different ... It’s been a lot of fun exploring what makes people tick and why our music works and getting to play in front of people."
