Luke Bryan to Mentor Team Blake Shelton During ‘The Voice’ Season 12
Blake Shelton will be getting some help from his good friend Luke Bryan during Season 12 of The Voice: Bryan will serve as Team Blake's mentor.
“I enjoy being in the moment with those artists and in my gut feeling, tell them the best thing I can tell them and really lift them up,” Bryan tells the Tennessean. “I think I get lost in the shuffle in the media of the guy who dances onstage. I think people don’t realize that I moved to town, wrote songs and got a record deal. Early in my career, I was so nervous about big moments, I didn’t even enjoy them. I just want to help these people settle into who they are and enjoy the moment.”
The Tennessean reports that Bryan's The Voice episodes taped in Los Angeles the week of Jan. 16.
"Once he realized he was getting wrapped up in it, Luke was showing them dance moves and things to do," Shelton shares. "That's what happens, though. At some point, you realize, 'I'm an artist, no one ever really listens to what we have to say because it's our one thing we can do.' But when these [contestants] ask, you can say, 'That's easy because I've been there before.' Normally it's [advice] you would take to the grave with you."
According to the Tennessean, Shelton has asked Bryan to mentor his The Voice team a number of times before; however, Bryan's schedule has never worked out, until this year, when filming was rearranged.
Bryan and Shelton previously co-hosted the ACM Awards together (2013-2015). Last season on The Voice, Bette Midler was Team Blake's mentor; Shelton has also called upon Gwen Stefani, Brad Paisley and Miranda Lambert to take on that role. Additionally, Cher, Meghan Trainor, the Band Perry and many others have helped out throughout the show’s past seasons.
Season 12 of The Voice will begin on Feb. 27 on NBC. Shelton, Adam Levine and Alicia Keys will all return as coaches, while Stefani (previously a coach during Season 7 and Season 9) is replacing Miley Cyrus.
