Little Known Burger Joint In NoDak Named One Of The Best In USA
Nothing beats a good burger.
Comfort food to the core. Team it up with a plate of french fries and you have one of America's favorite combos.
We have some really good burger joints right here in the Capital Region. Sickies Garage, Texas Roadhouse, Scotty's, The Tumbleweed, The Blarney Stone, JL Beers, The Walrus, Little Cottage, Krolls Diner, Rock'n 50's Cafe, and The Broadway Grill and Tavern.
All of those fine burger joints are fine local options if you find yourself craving a burger. However, one North Dakota burger joint has been crowned "The Best of the Best" recently. It's also not located in a major North Dakota city.
According to our friends at Love Food, the best burger joint in North Dakota is The Old 281 Tavern in Minnewauken, North Dakota.
Even the North Dakota Beef Commission has recognized this burger joint. Back in May of 2024, the Beef Commission gave The Old 281 Tavern its "best beef burger" title for the second year in a row.
The general public was given the final vote on this prestigious award, so the locals must have come out. Minnewauken is not a very big town.
Minnewaukeen is located on the shores of Devils Lake, southwest of the city of Devils Lake. The town has just under 200 people living in it.
The exterior of The Old 281 Tavern has a rugged look to it, but people I know rave about the ambiance inside of this not-so-hidden gem.
It's a very family-friendly atmosphere and the menu features just about every kind of burger you can dream up.
My boss, who has a lake place on Devils Lake says her favorite burger at The Old 281 Tavern is "The Montana". It features huckleberry sauce, bacon, and Swiss cheese. Another popular burger is "The German Burger" which of course features sauerkraut.
Oh, by the way, each burger has The Old 281 Tavern logo on the bun.
Next time you are in the Devils Lake area, this burger joint might be worth a stop or even worth a road trip.
