Fake Money Found in North Dakota Sparks Police Warning
If you're like me, you never handle cash. I can hardly remember the last time I carried cash on a regular basis. Most of the country has moved to digital payment options, but however, if you prefer to go the old school route and have something physically in-hand, you might want to pay attention to this warning just issued by the Williston Police Department.
According to a post made by the police department, several counterfeit bills have been found in the North Dakota city. As a matter of fact they had said that they received 3 reports of fake bills being found on July 3rd alone.
The Facebook post went on to explain that many of the bills are marked with phrases like "For Motion Picture Use" or "Copy Money." Honestly, at a quick glance, these bills look legit and are very convincing. We often get caught up in the busyness of the day and don't question what we're being given or handed.
The police department of Williston wanted to warn the people of Williston about this fake money, but I thought, that if they're popping up in Williston frequently, it would be possible, and won't take long for this to spread like wildfire all across our state, so whatever North Dakota city you're in, stay on high alert for these bills.
The police department gave the following tips:
- Look for unusual words printed on the bill.
- Compare the texture and color to genuine currency.
- Check for unusual or repeated serial numbers.
- Carefully inspect larger bills before completing a transaction.
- Use a counterfeit detection pen if you have one available.
