Welp, the cold is here to stay in North Dakota. Over the next several months, we will get plenty more ice and snow and dip down into those negative temps. I for one, am already over it.

Something you might not think to do in the winter is to wash your car. Our cars get covered with all kinds of sludge, salt, and other road chemicals. To help get that off and keep your vehicle from rusting, it's always a good idea to run your car through the wash.

Yes, many car washes stay open throughout the winter months. I called around to several Bismarck-Mandan car washes to see at what temperatures they close.

When Do Local Car Washes Close?

Red Carpet and Tommy's said they are always open, even on our coldest days, but that might not necessarily be the case for others in the area. Simonson's said they will close the wash if the temperatures drop below 15 degrees.

They told me they do this because they have people working in the bay, doing pre-washes, so they want to bring them in on those very cold days. Totally understandable.

Just keep this in mind as we get further into the winter months, and if you're unsure, call ahead and check before you drive to a local car wash.

Happy sludge season!
