ND House Advances Bill – Schools To Tailor Cellphone Policies
Ok, I don't have kids...I'll be honest, however, I still believe in this day and age...
...kids SHOULD have a cell phone, and be able to have it on them in school ( as long as they don't abuse the freedom of it ). There are many reasons why I think that way. One
is safety - reassurance for the parents to be able to get ahold of their kids immediately, and vice versa. There is a bill that would require school cell phone policies in North Dakota.
Several people I talked to today were torn on this.
Half disagreed with my thoughts and believed that schools should have the right and capability to enforce a "No Cell Phones in the Classroom" policy. This bill would give
a little bit of both for the kids and the school. According to northdakotamonitor.com "North Dakota school districts would be required to develop a
cellphone policy but retain control over what is in that policy under a bill passed Monday by the House. House Bill 1160 originally banned cellphone use by public school
students during class but was made less restrictive" So now the bill advances to the senate - There is also another bill -Senate Bill 2300 that ".... requires school districts to
securely store student cellphones during the school day" I understand that one as well, so I see both sides of this. As one Rep from Casselton - Brandy Pyle- said "I believe in
local control,I think it’s a great option.” We shall see how both of these bills end up...
