Insane April Snowfall Totals For North Dakota & Across The Area
April snowfall, despite what people may think, is pretty common in North Dakota.
I saw a stat on WDAY TV News last night: over the last 30 Aprils in North Dakota, 23 of them have had measurable snowfall over 2 inches. 9 of those years have had snowfall over 6 inches.
Yes, it's springtime, but Mother Nature is not being bipolar; she's just being ornery.
Our snowfall totals would've likely been much higher in the Bismarck-Mandan area if it weren't for the warmer temperatures.
The snow had a tough time accumulating as much of it was melting on contact as it hit our warmer surfaces. Only minor accumulation occurred over the last couple of days in the Capital City.
I gave the National Weather Service in Bismarck a call this morning, and the official snowfall total was only 1.4 inches.
That snow came with .27 inches of liquid as once again, it had a hard time accumulating as much of it was melting on contact. We also received some rain, freezing rain, and sleet.
If the temperature had been even a few degrees colder, we could've been looking at 3 or 4 inches of snow.
