If you are an animal lover, you might already know the answer to this question. If you're in the process of adopting furry friends, that's great! That said, here's something you might want to consider.

State Limits

The state of North Dakota doesn't have a limit on how many dogs and/or cats you can own, the different municipalities do have varying restrictions.

Bismarck's Limits

In residential areas, the city of Bismarck limits the number of dogs and cats you can own.

If you live within Bismarck's city limits, you cannot own more than three dogs or cats over the age of four months. If you want more than three you will have to apply for a special pet license.

This, according to the Bismarck Animal Clinic.

Mandan Limits

Mandan, similar to Bismarck also limits the number of cats and dogs you can own. According to the City of Mandan:

"No one shall possess more than 3 dogs and 3 cats, 6 months of age, or older."

If you break this rule, you may be subject to fines, nuisance complaints, and removal of your animals.

You can find more detailed information on this in Mandan's Municode.

Puppy Love

I understand the urge to take every stray/abandoned animal home with you. I really do.

We would all love to be smothered in as many puppy kisses as possible, just keep in mind that there are certain rules and limits when owning animals within Bismarck and Mandan's city limits.

Best of luck with your furry friends. Thanks for reading!
