24/7 Wall St. released their annual list of the happiest and most miserable states to live and no surprise a majority of the Midwest states ranked the happiest.

The Gallup-Sharecare Well-Being Index is based on interviews with over 160,000 U.S. adults with the intent to get an overall feeling of their lives on a daily basis. The participants are scored in five overall areas including sense of purpose, social relationships, financial security, relationship to community and physical health and access to healthcare.

To rank the happiest states 24/7 Wall Street scrutinized the numbers from the Gallup-Sharecare Well-Being Index and ranked the states from the happiest to the most miserable.

It should come as no surprise, again this year, the happiest people live in the upper Midwest and the most miserable people live in the rust belt and the South.

The happiest state is South Dakota. The rest of the happiest states are:

  • 2- Vermont
  • 3- Hawaii
  • 4- Minnesota
  • 5-North Dakota

The most miserable state include West Virginia (#50), Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Oklahoma.

You can see the complete list here.

Now go and be happy!
