Carrie Underwood's full 2017-2018 Sunday Night Football opening video will premiere in early September, but fans watching NFL pre-season football on Sunday night (Aug. 27) got a sneak peek at the new clip. This year's Sunday Night Football introduction video will find Underwood and various NFL players roaming through different football towns.
In the behind-the-scenes clip that aired on Sunday night, Underwood admitted that she was excited "to be able to take it outside this year."
"It's really cool to be a part of Sunday Night Football" Underwood says. "It's a lot of fun to get together and do this."
Underwood has already sung the Sunday Night Football theme song for four years, since taking over for Faith Hill in 2013. For the 2016-2017 NFL season, Underwood replaced the old SNF theme, “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night,” with “Oh, Sunday Night;” the new tune is a remake of Underwood’s “Somethin’ Bad,” originally a collaboration with Miranda Lambert.
Underwood worked with the writers of “Somethin’ Bad” — Chris DeStefano, Brett James and Priscilla Renea — to re-work the lyrics into what's heard in "Oh, Sunday Night." In the new preview clip, Underwood revealed that in addition to changing up the intro video itself this year, subtle tweaks were made to the song to make it sound fresh.
Underwood's new Sunday Night Football opening video will make its official debut on Sept. 10, before kickoff of the first SNF game of the 2017-2018 NFL season. In that game, the Dallas Cowboys will take on the New York Giants.
Career-wise, Underwood has been laying low since the start of 2017. In November, she will return to co-host the 2017 CMA Awards with Brad Paisley; that same month, Underwood will also be inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame.
