Eric Church Shares Unreleased ‘Old Testament Me’ at CMA Fest 2017 [WATCH]
Eric Church performed an unreleased song, titled "Old Testament Me," during a private 2017 CMA Music Festival event. Readers can press play above to hear the track.
Church's private CMA Fest 2017 set took place on Friday (June 9). "Old Testament Me" is an acoustic track that finds Church reflecting on how the Bible taught him to counter hate with kindness ... but not because he's afraid of a fight.
"Yeah, I'll never forget the way it felt / Being disciplined by the Bible Belt," Church sings in "Old Testament Me." The song continues, "If it were up to me, what I would do / Is treat 'em eye for eye and tooth for tooth ..."
In the chorus of "Old Testament Me," Church sings, "Matthew, Mark, Luke and John / I did what you're teaching / But if the world thinks when I turn the other cheek / That it's a sign of weakness / Then you ain't gonna like what you see / From Old Testament me ..."
Church also performed at the 2017 CMA Music Festival as part of Friday night's show at Nissan Stadium. Next June, Church will headline the 2018 Taste of Country Music Festival; festival organizers announced Church as the event's first 2018 headliner on Saturday night (June 10).
Church spent the first half of 2017 out on the road for his Holdin’ My Own Tour; for the trek, the country star opted out of bringing an opening act in favor of performing two sets each night — a three-hour show in total. The 2017 Holdin’ My Own Tour is (so far) the most-attended tour in the world in 2017, with more than 900,000 fans buying tickets.
The 2017 CMA Music Festival runs through Sunday (June 11) in Nashville.
