The largest tribe in North Dakota, the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa is looking to expand its footprint in the state.

With around 31,000 members, the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa has been looking to add a casino in the state for a while now.

They currently operate a casino in Belcort already, known as the Sky Dancer Casino and Resort, and the Grand Treasure Casino in Trenton, North Dakota.

According to KVRR TV, they have owned a parcel of land just southwest of the current city limits of this major North Dakota city along Interstate 29.

After many years of talk, it looks like this casino and entertainment center is finally coming to Grand Forks.

A letter of intent was recently approved by the Grand Forks Committee for the project. This is the first step in the process to get this project up and running. Agreements on the development, infrastructure, taxes, and other factors have to be agreed upon.

Grand Forks already has a lot going for it with the Alerus Center entertainment, The Ralph Englestad Arena with its hockey and entertainment, and the University of North Dakota.

Adding a new casino to the mix with even more concerts and entertainment, and more hotel rooms will be a win-win for the city.

Grand Forks already has the premier college hockey arena in the country and a 20,000-seat arena for concerts with the Alerus Center.

It's certainly another feather in the cap for the city of Grand Forks. The 3rd largest city in the state continues to grow and expand.
