Did Bismarck’s Mike Peluso Just Catch A State Record Walleye?

Bismarck's Mike Peluso is having a heck of a last couple of weeks.  The former NHL hockey player, state championship hockey coach for Bismarck High and now fishing guide, has a great couple of weeks on and off the water.

It was just announced that Mike is one of 4 people being inducted into the North Dakota Sports Hall of Fame.  Peluso is a top 10 all-time scorer for Minnesota Duluth before playing for the Chicago Blackhawks and the Philadelphia Flyers in the National Hockey League.  It's also believed Mike is the single season record holder for points all time in North Dakota High School hockey history, during his playing days for the Bismarck High Demons.  Mike also led the Bismarck Demons to their only state title ever as a coach back in 2014.  Peluso will be inducted into the North Dakota Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, June 26th.  Mike was actually supposed to go into the HOF in 2020, but COVID-19 pushed that back.

That's what has been happening to Mike Peluso this past week off the water.  On the water he's been a Rock Star too.  Mike just caught a Walleye this past week that he believes would've challenged the current state record Walleye.  The fish measured at 34 inches and weighed close to 14 pounds.  However, the fish had already dropped her eggs.  Mike told me over the phone, "I would've loved to have weighed that fish before she lost her eggs."  The current record is a 16 pound, 6 ounce Walleye that was caught on the Missouri River earlier this year on March 13th by Jared Shypkoski of Dickinson, North Dakota.  Here's another look at that Fish.

Mike also caught a 14 pound Walleye the week before, that measured 30 inches.  Now, that's a couple of good weeks.  Fish & Fame, that's Bismarck's Mike Peluso.
