YIKES, August 1, 2023, will be a day that a lot of people remember.

Especially if you were in the Lake Sakakawea area Monday afternoon.  Severe thunderstorms rolled through the campgrounds causing lots of destruction.  Strong straight-line winds toppled trees, campers, and even pontoons.   Large hail caused damage to roofs, boats, and vehicles.

Reports of injuries and lots of ambulances were all a part of the aftermath of the storm.

Dakota Waters Resort on Beulah Bay was reportedly hit hard.  We have some photos of what it looked like after the storm blew through.

Not a pretty picture or should I say, "pictures."  As you can see by the photos, campers, travel trailers, sheds, barbeque areas, decks, pontoons, and boats were all damaged in these photos.

Tobacco Gardens was another area hit hard up on Lake Sakakawea.

There was even a camper that ended up in the lake at Beulah Bay.  Structures, barns, and grain bins also were toppled.  We also heard reports it looked like several inches of snow north of Hazen because the hail was so thick.  Thankfully, no significant injuries were reported.

These are the same storms that eventually made their way into the Bismarck, Mandan, and Lincoln areas at about 9:30 last night.  Even though these storms were severe, they didn't have the punch thankfully when they hit the Capital City as they did when they were up by the big lake.  Most notably a lot less wind and hail.

Our thoughts certainly go out to all those affected by last night's storms.
