Looks like the counties to west of us are either taking their time or have no intention of getting the COVID-19 vaccine.  According to an article in the Grand Forks Herald, the western 1/3 of North Dakota is very hesitant to roll up their sleeves and get their shots.

According to the North Department of Health, there were only seven counties in the entire state where less than 30 percent of the eligible population had received at least one dose of the vaccine.  You guessed it, all in western North Dakota.  Those counties include Williams, Dunn, McKenzie, Stark, Golden Valley, Grant and Slope.  Some of the more notable cities in these counties include, Watford City, Dickinson, Beach, Killdeer and Williston.  Those counties range from 24 percent to 29 percent of it's citizens having at least one shot of the vaccine.

Compare that to Burleigh County where 42.6 percent of the population has had at least one shot of the vaccine.  Cass County, which includes the city of Fargo has 52.1 percent of it's residents vaccinated with at least one shot and Grand Forks County has 44.1 percent.  The southeast county of Dickey, which includes the city of Ellendale, leads the state with 59.8 percent of its residents vaccinated.

In the article, it's stated that transportation difficulties in the oil patch may be part of the reason for the western North Dakota lag.  Other's say it's a "Rebel" attitude that is a contributing factor and not wanting to conform.

Even with that being said, North Dakota remains among the top states in the country in its vaccine rollout, however experts warn a block of vaccine hesitancy could prevent the state from putting COVID-19 thoroughly in the rear view.
