Check Out A North Dakota Hockey Player In A Goalie Fight!
Dropping the gloves in a hockey game certainly isn't as common as it once was.
Over the years, rule changes have made hockey fights less common. For example, in college hockey, players are all required to wear cages on their helmets.
That means hitting somebody with your bare hand on a metal cage, could result in a hand injury. Not to mention, NCAA rules have discouraged fighting with automatic ejections. The same could be said for high school hockey.
What is really strange, is that in junior hockey, something my son played for a short time, which is the level after high school, and right before college, you are not only allowed to fight, but you are not required to wear a cage on your helmet.
This makes no sense to me whatsoever, since you are wearing cages in high school and college but then you can get by with a half-shield visor in juniors. Because of this, fights do happen, and there's no game disqualification in most cases.
When it comes to fighting in hockey, one thing that is extremely rare is a goalie fight.
Very rare in the NHL, and usually only happens after a bench-clearing brawl. Well, it just happened in a junior hockey game featuring North Dakota's Fargo Force and a member of the Sioux Falls Stampede.
The two goalies involved were Alan Lendak from the Fargo Force and Aiden Wright from Sioux Falls. It was a sold-out night and the crowd and the announcers went wild.
Here is that goalie fight on Wiener Dog Night! Rock on!

Unfortunately for the Fargo goaltender, it looks like he took the brunt of the beating before the refs broke it up.
