Yes, I know how to spell North Dakota correctly. The title above is a JOKE!

We sure don't get a lot of respect in North Dakota. It's funny how many people I see on social media have no clue how even to spell the name of our state, let alone our cities. Even the company I work for frequently misspells the city I work in (Bismarck, not Bismark!!!).

In many parts of the United States, North Dakota is thought to be a province of Canada.

This is no joke. Brilliant people in places like California and New York frequently think of North Dakota as a Canadian province. I've encountered them myself. When I lived in southern California for a short time, I would often get the "Eh" jokes, referring to North Dakota as part of Canada.

North Dakota should actually get a lot of respect.

We're about the only state in the country that could exist on its own.  According to the Department of Mineral Resources, we have enough coal to last for over 800 years, with 25 billion tons in Western North Dakota alone. We all know about North Dakota's other resources such as oil, natural gas, agriculture, and not to mention our military and nuclear power.  Yep, our little "flyover state" would instantly elevate to one of the superpowers of the world in a very short time.

No, I'm not suggesting North Dakota does this, but it would be nice to get a little respect from the rest of the country.  Are you listening, Minnesota?

Some of our North Dakota towns get misspelled more than others.  That got me thinking about putting together a top 10 list of the most misspelled cities in North Dakotah. Kidding again. Enjoy!
