A Big Shakeup in the Low-Cost Airline Industry

Allegiant Air, which serves the North Dakota communities of Fargo, Grand Forks, Minot, and Bismarck, is expanding its footprint. For those of you who aren't familiar with Allegiant Air, and what they have to offer, they are known for low-cost nonstop flights to popular warm weather locations like Las Vegas, Phoenix-Mesa, Orlando, and Tampa-St. Pete.

Sun seekers from the Capital City can choose from flights to Phoenix-Mesa, Arizona, Las Vegas, Nevada, and seasonally to Orlando-Sanford, Florida. Now, there might be even more options for low-fare flights from the Bismarck Airport, thanks to who Allegiant is merging with.

Allegiant Air Has Acquired Sun Country Airlines

Sun Country Airlines is another low-cost airline based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, that also offers numerous warm-weather destinations. Allegiant Air is based in Las Vegas, Nevada, and according to an announcement from the airline, the merger will offer its passengers even more popular vacation destinations across the United States, as well as international destinations, providing more access to affordable, convenient nonstop a

The only city that Sun Country served in North Dakota was Williston, North Dakota, with seasonal flights primarily to Nevada. You would also see Sun Country planes occasionally at the Bismarck Airport for select charter flights to Laughlin, Nevada. Maybe Allegiant should purchase Spirit Airlines now, too? Just throwing it out there.

Allegiant Air stated in a previous press release that it plans to maintain its headquarters in Las Vegas and will continue to have a significant presence in Minneapolis-St. Paul as well. You can read more about the merger with Sun Country here.
