We are experiencing an unprecedented cold snap.

The current temperature as I write this article on the morning of February 18th is a balmy minus 36 degrees Fahrenheit. That's air temperature, not wind chill. That's one degree shy of the all-time record low on this date of 37-below-zero back in 1910.

Who knows, we could still tie or break the record yet this morning, as it's usually coldest right before dawn.

***UPDATE*** We did indeed break an all-time record. We dropped to -38 at 5:30 am this morning to break the previous record low for this date, according to the National Weather Service.

I can remember one other 36-below-zero morning in my lifetime back when I lived in Grand Forks. Ironically, I jumped on an airplane that morning to fly to Alaska to go duck hunting and it was 35-above-zero. What a temperature swing.

We could very well see a temperature pendulum like that again like that by the weekend.

I remember last winter I happened to leave a bottle of my favorite drink Bai in my truck on a very cold night.

Needless to say, it was frozen solid after a freezing night.  I decided to let it thaw in the house that night and I brought it to work in the morning.  The color didn't look right. It was clear and it should've been a cloudy white like above.

I shook it several times before I took a sip.  YUCK, it just didn't taste right.  No matter how many times I shook it, something wasn't right.  Yep, freezing temperatures can mess with just about everything.

This got me thinking, what else should we avoid leaving in our vehicles when the mercury plunges?

According to an article on Boston 25 News, you should avoid letting the following freeze in your vehicle.  Most of these are obvious, but a few of these might surprise you.  I also added an item from my own experience.  If you're a big hunter like myself, you are going to want to keep this one in mind.

So, without further ado, here are 6 things you should keep out of your vehicles once the temperatures get fridged.
