Two North Dakota towns have been named to the list of the top 130 kindest in America.

And, you might be surprised by the two cities that made the list in my opinion. They are not known for "North Dakota Nice," comparatively speaking, to other towns in the state.

More on the two towns in NoDak who are getting rave reviews for kindness in a moment.

I recently came across this list of the top 130 kindest cities in the United States online, and I was actually shocked by the North Dakota city that scored very high.

Why? Because I have spent a lot of time in this city over the years, and I have witnessed some unruly behavior by some of its residents.

One incident happened at a boat ramp, where two local jerks got after an elderly couple because they weren't launching their boat fast enough for them.

Another was when another known local was threatening other fishermen that he would kill them if they got too close to him during a hot walleye bite.

The third happened to my boy and me, when a landowner started shooting at us with a shotgun while we were fishing on public navigable water, because we were fishing on his land that was under water.

As you may have guessed, the city I'm speaking of is Devils Lake, North Dakota.

I realize the residents of Devils Lake have been through a lot over the years, as the lake has swallowed up a lot of farmland and even homes. This no doubt added a lot of stress to the community, but it still doesn't give you a free pass to be a jacka$$.

I've also known a lot of nice people who have lived in Devils Lake over the years, and it only takes a few bad apples to spoil the perception of a city.

Let's get to the cities in North Dakota that made the list of the Top 130 Kindest or most likely to greet a stranger in America.

This is according to an article on  AM FM.

Devils Lake at #74.

Dickinson at #82.

Those were the only cities from North Dakota to make the cut.

Aberdeen, South Dakota, scored really well at #31.

Brainard, Minnesota, came in at #93 (Minnesota's highest entry).

No Montana cities made the top 130.

The methodology for this survey was based on over 3,000 vacationers. You can see the full list of the 130 cities that made the survey here.
